The Fertility Rate General or General Fertility Rate (GFR) is the number of live births per 1000 women in a state, for mothers ranging in age from 15–44 years, in a given year. This differs from the Birth Rate which is based on total number of live births per 1,000 individuals in the population. It differs from the Fertility Rate Total, or Total Fertility Rate (TFR), which is the estimated "number of births that a hypothetical group of 1,000 women would have over their lifetimes, based on age-specific birth rates in a given year."
